Culture and Heritage Collection
Sonakamal.com has a Culture and Heritage Collection, what is this? Why is it there? and how is it made?
What? - The Culture and Heritage collection represents jewelry that have at least some of its components sourced from existing vintage or antique jewelry. (Vintage – more than 20 years old; Antique – more than 100 years old)
Why? - It’s like wearing a piece of history in a contemporary setting. Or sharing the memories of past and creating new ones for future. This is our way of honoring those that came before us and left an impression with their lifestyle. The perspective of honor is universal it transcends time and place.
How? - We use Gems and components from vintage and antique jewelry which are broken, discarded or just plain retired from their original use.
As time passes on, our choices change, and the quest for new and unique continues. As jewelry designers we imagine the possibilities of every aspect of the jewel and its wearer. We invite you to imagine with us the beauty of possibilities our past holds. Check out the Culture and Heritage Collection at sonakamal.com
These culture and heritage components represent many things. They are part of our culture, our heritage, our memories and the effort and value of bygone generations.
They also represent the savings in environmental impact of recreating similar items, mining, water, labor and the whole chain of events that makes a single gem possible in a piece of jewelry
Another way to look at it will be cultural upcycling, by using existing elements we upcycle an item that has lost its appeal and transform it into a new and unique piece that holds the promise of recreating the magic of memories.
Sometimes the sheer fatigue of seeing the traditional and typical exhausts our mindset and we constantly look for new, now here is the new that connects us to past and delivers us to future. It holds the mysteries of the old, the exotic, the extinct, and compels us to explore.
